Internet Treasures
There are so many great websites on the Internet, that it’s very easy to fall into a pattern of just checking the same sites over and over and never really exploring to find anything new. I’ve been doing just that and so recently I’ve tried to venture out a little bit and find some new and interesting sites that I could add to my bookmarks. In finding these sites, I’ve also found some cool apps as well so I thought I’d make this a quick list of some these new things I’ve found recently.
Life Hacker – A great website for geeks that always has excellent articles about increasing your productivity, enhancing your computing experiences, finding great applications and tweaking your PC or MAC to your hearts extent. It also tends to lead to other great sites as well.
Hackers New – Another great site typically revolving around start-ups and emergingwebsites. Very simple list style format with threaded discussions. I visit them daily.
Evernote- A great “remember everything” app. I’ve just recently started using it so I haven’t really had a chance to explore it’s full potential, but I can see it being a staple in my daily life. I won’t try to make a sales pitch other than there are clients for Windows Mobile, iPhone/iTouch, Mac, PC and a the web. Take a look.
Samurize- A pretty cool system monitor app for Windows. Allows you build cool desktop overlays which can display your basic system info, but can also read text files for to-do lists, execute dos commands, retrieve rss feeds and even full blown websites; all delivered to your desktop.
Autohotkey – Another cool productivity app which basically allows you to create hot keys for nearly any kind of action you can think of. I’ve just set this up over the last couple of days and I’ve been using it quite a bit as an app launcher.
Future Me – I always forget about this site and then every few months I’ll get reacquainted with it. This basically allows you to pen an email that is sent to you or someone you know in the future. Send yourself reminders, or email your new years resolutions to yourself in July to make sure you’re still on track. Pretty cool.
DIGG – I’m sure everyone knows about this one.
Picasa – Found this Google gem the other evening. I’m really enjoying it having all my photos in one place, complete with tags and captions and descriptions. I know we have flickr, but this is a desktop client that can see with a web based album as well. Can’t be beat!
